Fashion accessories such as statement shoes and bold jewellery will be must-haves for ladies wanting to stay on trend this year, according to an expert.

Ken Downing, fashion director at Neiman Marcus tells abc15.com that "sky-high stilettos and sandals" will be hot for 2009, while necklaces, bracelets, rings and earrings will feature bright coloured gems to complement patterned outfits.

He adds that geometric prints and graphics will also feature in clothing this year, according to the news provider.

Asymmetric styles continue to be fashionable, Mr Downing asserts, with designers showing off one-shoulder creations on the catwalks.

Ladies who like to take plenty with them wherever they go will be pleased to hear that carryalls will be big next season, he claims.

Mr Downing states that "unstructured handbags" are the way to go for a "free-spirited" appearance.

Last month, Female First reported that coloured animal prints will be fashionable this season, with the trend already appearing on catwalks.
