Long hair could be one of beauty trends to come back this summer, after Katie Holmes stepped out in Tokyo sporting luscious, wavy extensions.

The actress went for a dramatic makeover for the premiere of husband Tom Cruise's film, Valkyrie, swapping her short bob for a glamorous new style.

She opted for a sexy, strapless dress with a hot pink and black, beaded bodice and bright red skirt to show off her shiny new locks.

Katie followed the style of celebrity pal Victoria Beckham in adopting an elfin cut after her marriage to Tom, a striking difference from her former girl-next-door image.

But perhaps long waves could be making a comeback among beauty trends this year, despite the bob being a favourite among the A-list, with Jessica Alba also showing off a cropped look recently.

Katie recently appeared on the cover of Glamour magazine's 70th anniversary edition with her short hair styled into a tousled do.
