   Leona and Beyonce chart their success
   
 

Girls really were on top this weekend, with solo females reigning supreme in both the singles and album charts.

X Factor winner Leona Lewis proved her critics wrong by snapping up the number one spot for her album, Spirit.

It had already been released in November last year and is the second outing for the songstresses' debut, taking up residence on the top spot on both occasions.

She beat off competition from Dido, whose latest album Safe Trip Home had to suffice with second position.

American R&B princess Beyonce, however, replaced this year's X Factor finalists in the number one spot with her latest offering, If I Were a Boy.

Earlier this month, Beyonce and her hubby Jay Z were named as Hollywood's highest earning couple, with estimates suggesting the pair earned £110 million between June 2007 and July 2008.

Beyonce is said to have netted over £54 million from her various business ventures.
