Switching to a lighter foundation or tinted moisturiser is a simple way to instantly look younger, according to make-up expert Jemma Kidd.

Writing in her column for the Daily Mail, she suggested that women with oil to combination skin try an oil-free or satin foundation.

"Heavy foundation draws attention to fine lines, so opt for one with a lighter texture," she explained.

Women with normal to dry skin should choose a tinted moisturiser, she suggested.

Ms Kidd also recommended that women invest in well-groomed eyebrows, as these "give your face an instant lift".

"It's worth getting them threaded or waxed by a professional, especially for the first time," she advised.

Ms Kidd said ladies should fill any gaps with a waxy brow pencil, then use a powder over the top to soften the look.

Celebrity make-up artist Ariane Poole recently predicted that fresh colours would be among the big trends for 2010.
