Mixing floral patterns and using fashion accessories to liven up outfits are the keys to summer trends, according to Girls Aloud's stylist.

Frank Strachan, who has worked with the ladies over the last three years, tells Female First that nudes and pastels are also big this season.

"The recession is making fashion really interesting, it is inspiring people to be creative with their styles," he says.

Mr Strachan asserts that simplicity is back in, but fashion accessories can turn an outfit from dreary to daring.

"Working on a budget doesn't mean you have to be dull with your choices," he insists.

Looking ahead to autumn and winter, the stylist suggests that statement fashion accessories will become big trends, while red and black will be the colours to be seen in.

Meanwhile, Girls Aloud's Nicola Roberts has been setting her own style agenda, stepping out in a 1960s-inspired get-up, complete with curled locks and striking red lipstick.
